Author: Visit Poconos/Monday, July 17, 2017/Categories: Poconos Events, Pocono Attractions Articles

Event date: 7/17/2017 - 7/19/2017 Export event

Kittatinny Canoes' annual river cleanup is a major success, in large part to our faithful volunteers who come back year after year. Hundreds of volunteers give their time to help preserve and protect the ecology of the river and its inhabitants. Kittatinny, in return for their time and loyalty, provides complimentary canoes, campsites, breakfast, and a barbecue dinner to all of the volunteers.

The volunteers are organized according to skill, some just picking up trash and debris along the banks and where the water is shallow; others are divers and snorkelers who concentrate on the deeper sections of the river. As a team, they are unstoppable!able!

How to Participate:
On Monday, July 17th, we will meet at Kittatinny Campgrounds, located at 3854 State 97, Barryville, NY, 12719. On Tuesday, July 18th, we will meet at our Dingmans Base, located next to the Dingmans Ferry Bridge. On Wednesday, July 19th, we will be at the Matamoras Base sorting the trash collected from the River Clean Up. Free camping is offered on all days of the cleanup. Breakfast and dinner are provided.

We are making a difference and we encourage you and the media to join us in our environmentally conscious endeavor, please contact Kittatinny Canoes at 1-800-FLOAT-KC for details or e-mail us at and in the subject line write "River Clean-Up 2017."

All river clean-up participants are required to RSVP with us so we may arrange boats, work groups and meals. Camping is limited and must be reserved by our river clean-up management staff.

If you are a repeat volunteer please give us a call to secure the day or days you are interested in helping out. If you are new to the river cleanup please give us a call to put your name on a list.

During the previous 27 years of doing this cleanup we have removed 8,967 tires, 8,750 pounds of aluminum cans and a total of 457.48 tons of trash. This is our way of giving back to this great resource, the Delaware River.

We are making a difference and we encourage you and the media to join us in our environmentally conscious endeavor. Please contact Kittatinny Canoes at 1-800-FLOAT-KC or email us at so that we may provide you with more information or make your reservations.

Color May World Wine Dinner at Skytop Lodge

As the master sommelier Jim Beau Borick approaches the sensory board, which is essentially one long row of aromatherapy—lemon slices, pieces of oak, fresh lavender—stashed in banquet glasses atop a wooden buffet, a crowd forms in front of him. He begins with the white, a Chardonnay by Valley of the Moon, the featured winemaker of the night. This is the second monthly wine dinner of the 2016 season at Skytop Lodge and Borick’s pitch is as light as the tan suit he wears. Every so often he weaves in a heavier note, one that swirls into his proclaimed lifelong fascination with the fermented grape: “We gravitate toward wine because of its mystery…yet the beauty of wine… is found in its complexity.”

Tracy Morgan Comedy Show, “Picking Up the Pieces”
Tracy Morgan has not only picked up the pieces, but has firmly glued the pieces back together in his new comeback comedy tour Picking Up the Pieces.  In 2014, Tracy was severely injured when a tractor-trailer rammed into the back of the limo bus he was traveling in, overturning the vehicle and killing one of his comedy writers, James McNair.  Two other members of his team were also severely injured.  The accident left him in a coma and fighting to recover.  Mr. Morgan is back, using his near death experience as part of his comedy routine.  He adeptly weaves his many difficult life moments into a comedic adventure sharing the many challenges he had to overcome from childhood until now.
