Friday, November 11, 2016 (Shawnee on Delaware, Pennsylvania) - This past weekend, The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort hosted their 5th Annual Cupcake Challenge to support The United Way of Monroe County – the charitable competition took place on November 6 from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. The event was a great success, attracting approximately 1,500 people from all over the tristate area and raising upwards of $8,000 to support families in need living in Monroe County.
31 participants arrived to the resort early Sunday morning to set up intricate displays featuring their best cupcakes. The competition was split into three categories including, home bakers, junior bakers, and professionals. This encouraged bakers of all levels to come out and enjoy the challenge. The event included copious amounts of delicious sweets, and even a replica of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate factory, complete with a chocolate waterfall untouched by human hands. Bakers came from far and wide to proudly display their most creative treats for guests to sample and judge.
The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort invited judges from Lancaster Cupcake and Cake Life in Philadelphia, to name winners in each category. The judges, both of whom previously won Cupcake Wars on Food Network, also chose a winner for the most creative display. Guest participation was welcomed as well, with two stations to cast votes for a “People’s Choice” cupcake. Once 2:30pm rolled around, guests and participants gathered into the resort’s ballroom for an awards ceremony.
The Junior Baker winners were Hanna Hyland, Ana Pivovarnik, and Catherine Corbett in first place with their Lemon Berry cupcake, Jacob Kolar in second, with his Blueberry Pancake flavor, and Madison Mortimer with a Peanut Butter Chocolate cupcake. For the Home Bakers, first place went to Jessica DeLong and her Blackberry Mojito cupcake, second was awarded to Laura Hoffman with a Rose Red Raspberry cupcake, and third place went to Diana Brewster and her Monkey Madness cupcake. Finally, in the professional category, Talana Deshaies Burgard took first place for her Golden Ticket cupcake, Sweet Sweet Wonderland came in second with their Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie flavor and third place was awarded to Bobbi Holl and her Doll Face Vanilla Cookie Butter cupcake. Talana Deshaies Burgard swept the competition, winning People’s Choice and most creative table with her detailed Willy Wonka display.
