Biking the Black Diamond Trail to White Haven— Everything You Need to Know
At first, it’s all about the soaring view, with miles of rolling hills and endless sky. But as you descend, the trees grow taller and leaner, exposing the lively forest bed. If you’re looking for a couple of hours of casual, all downhill, bike riding in the Pocono Mountains—this trip is for you. Take it from me. I recently did it with a few of my favorite people.

“Still On the Up” Interview with Adam Aijala of Yonder Mountain String Band, New Album Early 2017
For 18 years, Yonder Mountain String Band has redefined bluegrass music by pushing the envelop into the realms of rock n’ roll and improvisation. This afternoon marks the beginning of the 2016 summer tour, and their first show tonight is sold out.  I ask Adam Aijala (guitar and vocals), over the phone, what the vibe is like on the tour bus right now, and he replies, reasonably: “It’s actually… pretty empty. Everyone is out doing things.” But when I mention the sold-out show tonight, he says, instantly full of life: “It feels great—it should be a good show!”

Color May World Wine Dinner at Skytop Lodge

As the master sommelier Jim Beau Borick approaches the sensory board, which is essentially one long row of aromatherapy—lemon slices, pieces of oak, fresh lavender—stashed in banquet glasses atop a wooden buffet, a crowd forms in front of him. He begins with the white, a Chardonnay by Valley of the Moon, the featured winemaker of the night. This is the second monthly wine dinner of the 2016 season at Skytop Lodge and Borick’s pitch is as light as the tan suit he wears. Every so often he weaves in a heavier note, one that swirls into his proclaimed lifelong fascination with the fermented grape: “We gravitate toward wine because of its mystery…yet the beauty of wine… is found in its complexity.”

Get back to nature at the charming Skytop Lodge

Two hours west of Manhattan, beyond the Delaware River Gap, up the mountain, and through the woods stands the charming and historical Skytop Lodge. When you get there, first thing, climb the stairs to the observation tower. Look past the lake and into the rolling hills. Breathe in the fresh air. Witness beauty and peace in the Pocono Mountains.
