Ever heard of a food hub? It’s an aggregating and distribution service that broadens the traditional approach to Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) by providing people access to an abundance and variety of fresh produce and goods from regional family farms and cooperatives.
“That means more options for consumers, and the satisfaction of supporting more than one local grower,” says Joel Portice, General Manager of Lackawaxen Farm Company (LFC) in Wayne County, PA. LFC’s food hub is now offering subscriptions, which run through November 17.
Subscriptions to LFC’s food hub include full or partial weekly boxes of locally grown produce like potatoes, summer squash, zucchini, carrots, onions, lettuce mixes, tomatoes, basil, and cabbage from growers committed to sustainable and organic farming practices.
In addition, LFC offers full or partial Butcher Box meat shares of grass-fed beef, pork and chicken raised on non-GMO or organic grain. There is also a pork-free option.
“The quality and variety are great, and we're always excited to see what's in our box each week,” says LFC food hub subscriber Meghan Dombrink-Green.
Currently, there are LFC food hub delivery locations in Dunmore, Dyberry Township, Hawley, Honesdale, Madison Township, Milford, Scranton and Waymart, PA. New delivery sites can be established in PA or NY.
